Sonic The Hedgehog has been one of the most popular series of games during the short period that the gaming industry has been on the market. Sonic was one of the first released series back on Nintendo when gaming was still at its birth and is still one of the most popular games on the market right now which proves the dominance it's had on the gaming market. Due to this, Sonic has created some of the most popular characters within a gaming series and below we look at some of our favourites.

Of course, the leader of the game, and the man in the title is of course Sonic and he is quite clearly one of the most popular players of his own game. The game wouldn't be the same without him. Sonic had everything that you would want in a main character whether it be his in-game charm, his ability to be fast and funny attitude made him one of the standout characters in the game. Sonic was that popular that within the game that he was seen on multiple other games such as Wreck-It Ralph.

Gaming has become one of the fastest growing industries in the technology world and has been able to benefit from the rapid evolving technology world. Tails was the opposite to Sonic who was fast and agile, Tails brought a flying ability which made him one of the most popular characters to play with.

Best Sonic Games Of All Time

There are a few gaming series in which have created a revolution and provided a certain dominance over the short period of time the gaming industry has been on the market. These include Super Mario and Grand Theft Auto but one of the first gaming series that has been there from the start is Sonic and has proved to be one of the most popular series of all time and below we look at some of their best games.

Although the original Sonic The Hedgehog was the start of the Sonic revolution, we believe its sequel that we thought was more impressive when it was released in 1992 on the Sega Genesis. Sonic The Hedgehog 2 had one of the most impressive plot twists from the first game in which Dr Eggman is planning world destruction once more and Sonic is the only thing in the world that can stop him. The most impressive thing about this game is that it was released so early into the gaming revolution but the quality that it showed compared to other competitors at the time is one of the reasons why Sonic became so popular over times.

Looking to more recent times, Sonic Mania which was released on multiple platforms including PC, PlayStation and Xbox further showed how popular the games continues to be even in 2017 when it was released and Steam fans have been that impressed with it that they give it a 9/10 rating. It's crazy that a 2D can be so popular even in the present day with all the technology that game developers have to create games with now. However, this is purely popular due to the nostalgic views on the Sonic series and will continue to be popular moving into the future.

And finally, one of the best 3D games that Sega have ever made for Sonic is Sonic Adventure 2 which was released on for Sega Dreamcast back in 2001. You can play as multiple characters in the episode including Sonic, Tails and Knuckles as you race against time to complete missions, upgrade characters and take part in other minigames such as karate and racing - one of our favourites ever. The Biggest Upcoming Video Game Movies

Video gaming has certainly been on the up and up with growing audiences turning to all aspects of gaming as a favourite past-time - whilst some are certainly more successful than others as mobile gaming is pulling ahead, particularly within online gambling options which can be found here away from platforms like gamstop aimed at reducing participation options. A quick redesign to make things look much better, and the first was a nice success - an enjoyable movie for those who were fans of the series, and just a nice way for many to watch something that didn't take itself too seriously either - soon after, the second movie was confirmed and has a current tentative scheduled release date of April 8th 2022 - there aren't any details released outside of that, but fans can rejoice that their favourite blue speedster will be back soon enough.

The Minecraft Movie - As the most sold video game of all time, it's no surprise that Minecraft would eventually get its own feature release too. The movie has already got through a few major changes with this past year seeing a total overhaul of the plot, but with a release date announced for March 4th 2022, hopefully there won't be any further big changes. The new plot has been since shown, so if you're like to know exactly what the movie entails you can check that out, but there's no doubt it'll be a big movie to start out the next year.

Mortal Kombat - There have been a few releases in the Mortal Kombat franchise, and the latest is set to release on 16th April 2021 - the recent trailer released just a few days ago shows a bloody and brutal approach to the new release, but it looks great and certainly seems to be a great successor to the previous releases. This will also be a big change for the movie industry as a whole as it'll be one of the first big releases to see a release both in cinema and on video-on-demand through HBO Max at the same time, as with the rest of the Warner Bros releases throughout the year.

If there's one thing we can say for certain, it's that nostalgia can be a powerful thing. Video games these days have come a long way. They sport incredible features and immersive graphics that practically transport us into other worlds. Despite having all of this within reach, many of us still turn to old-school classic games from time to time to experience the simpler entertainment of these titles and the feel-good high of sweeping nostalgia. If you find yourself in one of these moods right now, here are a few ways you can have a retro game throwback.

Boot up an Old Console

Here's a way that's glaringly obvious to most of you. There's no doubt that the best way to experience retro games is by playing them the way they were originally intended, through the consoles they were released for. While this sounds great in theory, many of us don't own any of these old consoles anymore, or we might not have the cartridge for the particular game we're itching to play.

Luckily, there are some quick fixes to this. If you're willing to spend a few bucks on an older console, it's not hard to find a slew of them listed on online retail platforms like eBay, Amazon, and even AliExpress. The same goes for the games. While they might be a bit pricy depending on their rarity, shopping for retro games online isn't much of an issue. Alternatively, you can always visit GameStop or your local game shop to check if they might have what you need on deck!

Can Gaming Help Change Regulation?

Without doubt one of the most popular forms of entertainment captivating a growing audience day by day is within gaming, mobile platforms have certainly helped push this forward too as it has brought gaming to the hands of a much wider audience than ever before - but that doesn't mean there haven't been stumbles on the way, or even stumbles in the future. Given the growing popularity, can gaming help change regulation that has typically been tough to move?

The most pressing lately has certainly been within online gambling, it has been difficult for many to push change through in different spaces for online gambling as it is still a difficult industry for many, and whilst there are active bills pushing for change and some states such as Michigan online gambling that have been adjusted recently to be much more accessible for some in part with their ties to other forms of gaming as a whole - but more changes could certainly be yet to come.

Perhaps the most important factor will come from this growing popularity and growing audience - gaming isn't only targeted at a primary young teen male audience anymore as the demographic has long since shifted away from this one market, in fact many researchers show that women over the age of 34 are now some of the biggest consumers for mobile gaming and play the longest hours - if initial measures were put in place to protect the younger audience that had been of primary concern before, then that is certainly something that needs to be reconsidered now the audience is much different than it had been before. Changed mechanics in gaming will also have their role to play, with microtransactions and loot boxes becoming so common there are more links being drawn between the two industries, and although there are many looking to hamstring parts of these options they have become much to big for anything too drastic, as they have become so deeply ingrained into modern gaming as a whole - it may not be so simple to discern differences between the two and as such a lot of leeway may need to be given on one side or the other to keep things moving forward.

It's certainly an interesting time in the market nonetheless and big changes could be on the way, with further embrace of different genres in gaming the future could certainly look much different in this space and with big figures in gaming as a whole - 2021 is certainly primed for it too after a difficult 2021, and changes to regulation to allow for a growing market in gambling and betting could provide the economic backdrop to help many struggling on their way to recovery with the huge number of players that have been attracted to the growing number of services for a longer period of time.

Looking to the Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary Celebrations

In 1991, Sonic the Hedgehog launched on the Sega Genesis, giving the Japanese company a mascot to hold up and use to compete with compatriot Nintendo's Mario. Since then, Sega and Nintendo have gone down different lanes as game companies, but Mario and Sonic remain as two of the most iconic and relevant characters in gaming to this day.

Mario has recently enjoyed his 35th anniversary, celebrating with a vast range of promotional goods and new games. In 2021, it'll be the Sonic the Hedgehog 30th Anniversary, with Sega gearing up to make it a colossal year for fans of the blue speedster.

In 2020, the Sonic series' intent on making a splash in the following year was made clear. Taking out an advertisement in a licensing book for Europe, there was a stack of enticing Sonic stats for licensors to mull over, and a commitment to 2021 being huge for Sonic. So, along with some Funko Pop! vinyl figures and special edition energy drinks, what are the big-hitters to look for when the anniversary celebrations get underway?

We all knew it was coming after the first broke records

In February last year, Sonic the Hedgehog smashed the video game movie opening record, landing a $70 million splash at the box office. This was remarkable for a couple of reasons, the first being that video game movies had suddenly been doing rather well. The second was that the movie was delayed because the creators had to do a complete reworking of the titular character after its ill-received debut. They do say that any publicity is good publicity, and it seems as though the rather terrifying live-action debut of Sonic worked a treat. With an eccentric Jim Carrey playing Dr Robotnik and Sonic fixed for the big screen, few pundits would have expected the movie to take off and dominate as it did. However, as is tradition, one success will now lead to a sequel.

So perhaps the most inevitable of the predictions would be for Paramount to reveal the initial trailer for the sequel. Amidst a huge juggling of the Hollywood schedule throughout 2020, and likely through 2021, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has been given the provisional release of 8 April 2022. If the planned release date holds true, a short reveal trailer at some point in 2021 seems all-but-inevitable - especially because it'd continue the 30th Anniversary celebrations.

Breaking into a new sector of gaming

The classic 2D platformer game series has broken into many different genres that once would have deemed incompatible with Sonic. The hedgehog has starred in 3D runs, racing games, arcade fighters, pinball machines, puzzlers, sports titles, and action-adventure games over the years, but one of the more obvious licensing opportunities for a spinoff game is yet to be embraced fully.

For the most part, when the best Sonic stages of all-time are discussed, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and its Casino Night Zone level is often involved. Becoming a staple of the series, the colorful neon lights, giant pinball tables, and chimes of rings make it a very memorable experience. Given the other pop-culture crossovers, particularly in slots, casino game developers should be poised to jump at the chance to licence Sonic - particularly now that the US has joined the scene. They didn't come out until 2017, but Mania still stands as the latest in the 2D platformer line, with Forces being the newest in Sonic's 3D platformer series. Other than those, 2019's Team Sonic Racing is the latest video game from the iconic hedgehog.

Back at SXSW Gaming in 2019, the head of Sonic Team announced that the next major title in the franchise was already in production, and the advert in the licensing book also cited "new games" being on the way. Whether or not those new games will be released in 2021 is unclear, even more so given the delays seen in 2020, but it's nearly certain that Sonic's next great adventure will at least be revealed for the anniversary.

Sega will undoubtedly go all-out for the 30th birthday of their most beloved game character, with Sonic fans set to be treated to a myriad of announcements and new content.
